Suryakiran Aerobatic Team Captivates Bhavnagar with Spectacular Air Show Over Gaurishankar Lake
Bhavnagar, November 1, 2026: The Indian Air Force’s (IAF) renowned Suryakiran Aerobatic Team delivered a spectacular aerial performance over Bor Talav, also known as Gaurishankar Lake, in Bhavnagar on Sunday, showcasing the precision, coordination and professional excellence of India’s military aviation.
The event marked the first air show of its kind hosted by Bhavnagar, attracting large crowds of spectators who gathered along the lakefront and at prominent vantage points across the city to witness the aerial display.
Nine red-and-white Hawk Mk-132 aircraft took part in the performance, executing a series of technically demanding manoeuvres, including close formation flying, wingtip-to-wingtip sequences, loops, rolls and inverted flight. The aircraft also created striking saffron, white and green smoke trails, reflecting the colours of the Indian national flag across the sky.
The display lasted approximately 30 to 40 minutes, offering spectators an opportunity to witness the team’s specialised aerobatic capabilities.
A Distinguished Legacy of Aerial Excellence
Established in 1996, the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team is recognised as Asia’s only nine-aircraft aerobatic formation. Over the years, it has completed more than 800 air displays in India and abroad, earning recognition as an ambassador of the Indian Air Force.
The team operates Hawk Mk-132 aircraft manufactured under licence by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Its motto, “Sadaiva Sarvottam” (Always the Best), was reflected in the coordinated performance.
The team is commanded by Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi, with Wing Commander Tejeshwar Singh serving as Flight Commander. The seamless execution of the display involved 13 pilots, supported by technical and operational personnel whose training and coordination contributed to the event.
Air Force Outreach Inspires Young Aspirants
Beyond the aerial spectacle, the Indian Air Force organised several public engagement activities to familiarise visitors with the service and its career opportunities.
A dedicated motivational stall provided information about career options, recruitment and selection procedures, and life in the Indian Air Force. The initiative attracted students and young aspirants interested in exploring a career in the armed forces.
An Air Simulator facility offered visitors a simulated experience of aircraft controls and flying procedures, generating enthusiasm among participants from different age groups.
The Air Force Band of Headquarters South Western Air Command also presented a musical programme featuring martial tunes, patriotic compositions and ceremonial performances, adding to the occasion’s atmosphere.
Senior Dignitaries Attend the Event
The air show was organised jointly by the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation and the District Administration of Bhavnagar, with free entry for the public. Designated viewing areas around the lake and elevated locations across the city enabled spectators to watch the performance.
Nimuben Bambhaniya, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, attended the event as the Chief Guest.
Among the special guests was Air Vice Marshal G. S. Bhullar, Senior Officer Administration, Headquarters South Western Air Command, Gandhinagar. Senior ministers of the Gujarat Government, elected representatives and local civil administration officials were also present.
The Indian Air Force expressed appreciation to the district administration, municipal authorities, police and other supporting agencies for ensuring the smooth conduct of the programme. It also acknowledged the enthusiastic participation and warm reception extended by the people of Bhavnagar.
The event highlighted the Indian Air Force’s continuing efforts to connect with citizens through public demonstrations of aviation skills, discipline and operational professionalism. By combining aerobatic displays with educational and interactive activities, the programme also sought to inspire younger generations to consider serving the nation through the armed forces.
