Mizoram Gets ₹710.40 Crore Approval for 509.54 Km of Rural Roads under PMGSY-IV
45 New Road Projects to Connect 48 Previously Unconnected Habitations with All-Weather Road Infrastructure
New Delhi, 31 October 2026: Mizoram is set to receive a significant boost in rural infrastructure development following the approval of 45 road projects covering 509.54 kilometres under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV (PMGSY-IV), Batch-I, for the financial year 2026–27.
According to the Ministry of Rural Development, the approved projects carry an estimated investment of ₹710.40 crore and will provide all-weather road connectivity for the first time to 48 previously unconnected habitations across the state.
The initiative is expected to improve accessibility for rural communities, particularly in remote areas, by establishing reliable road links to essential public services and economic centres.
Improved connectivity will make it easier for residents to reach schools, healthcare facilities, hospitals and rural markets. Better transportation infrastructure is also expected to support local economic activities, improve access to livelihood opportunities and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of rural communities.
The latest approval adds to the substantial rural road infrastructure already sanctioned for Mizoram under PMGSY.
According to the Ministry, a cumulative total of 367 road projects covering approximately 4,935 kilometres, along with seven bridges, have already been sanctioned for the state. The combined sanctioned project cost stands at approximately ₹3,412 crore.
The expanded road network reflects the government’s continued focus on improving rural accessibility and extending essential infrastructure to remote and underserved habitations.
Through PMGSY-IV, the government aims to strengthen rural connectivity and ensure that geographically isolated communities have better access to education, healthcare, markets and other essential services.
The initiative also aligns with the broader national vision of Viksit Bharat, which emphasises inclusive development, improved infrastructure and enhanced opportunities for communities across the country.
