Indian cinema, or perversely called Bollywood churns hundreds every year and include that with a few hundred of regional cinema and the slew of Web series and Internet content, you have a visual assault. Then you have a commercial cinema that is like a veritable circus. Where does this put GLORIOUS DEAD a cinema made by a Maverick Director Sudeep Ranjan Sarkar filmed with an iPhone 8plus and nothing else, yes you heard it right, nothing else, no star cast and two locations of France and two locations of India in a kaleidoscopic melting pot of content? In fact, it solidly puts the cinema as nothing short of revolutionary.

We have to separate the movie into two halves. The first and the most talked about the part is the technological aspect. Shooting with just an iPhone is a different ball game. It doesn’t just make independent cinema seem to be the greatest adventure ever, even it makes it so exciting, so daring, so uncertain like it was at the beginning of cinema. Come on, shooting with a smartphone is downright risky, all the more if it is a feature. You don’t know whether you have ended up producing trash or you have wasted your team’s time.

Secondly, classic cinematographers would look at you like you are the biggest joke on earth. In that sense Sudeep is outright revolutionary, bordering on maniac. The movie has moments you will gape at to look at the audacity of his dreams.

Now the second part of this movie that needs to be mentioned is its equally stunning content. You have to see it to believe it. The sheer depth of the plot and the philosophy behind the movie makes it must watch. The movie is like a timeless cosmic journey.

This movie has all the ingredients to become a cult and the Director Sudeep Ranjan Sarkar is a storm approaching on the horizon.
