World Ozone Day is celebrated by the Botanical Survey of India with students of the remotest Sunderbans school.

Ozone Day 2022 was celebrated by the Botanical Survey of India, Central National Herbarium, and BSI-ENVIS resource partner on Biodiversity (Flora) Howrah jointly in collaboration with Swapnopuron Shiksha Niketan (an education initiative by Swapnopuron Welfare Society) Hingalganj, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal on 16th September 2022. The team of BSI visited the remotest school and organized the Save Ozone-Save Life awareness rally around the school surrounding area of the Hingalganj block, located at the Indo-Bangladesh International border and the Sunderbans.

Dr. S. S. Dash, Scientist E, in charge, of the Technical section of BSI, joined the event virtually and inaugurated the session by emphasizing the significance of the Ozone day celebration, the concept of good ozone Vs bad ozone, and informing students about the Montreal protocol. Mrs. Soma Bose, Vice Principal, SSN, expressed her gratitude to the Botanical Survey of India for organizing the Ozone day celebration at the remotest school. The movie “Reset Earth: One Ozone, One Planet One Chance” was shown to the participants on this occasion.

The quiz competition on Ozone was also organized in which 6 teams of 12 students from different nearby schools participated. Mr. Raihan Gazi and Deep Das got first prize, Ms. Tanuska Bhattacharya and Urmi Haldar got Second prize while Mr. Shyan Pramanick and Snehasis Mondal secured the third position in the Ozone day quiz competition. All winners were felicitated with trophies, medals, and certificates by organizers. On this occasion, Dr. Mahua Pal, Botanist, Central National Herbarium, informed the participants about the re-introduction of Cheetahs in India at Kuno National Park. During this, Dr. Mahua Pal, Sanjay Kumar, Ms. Shabnam Bandyopadhyay, and Mr. Somnath Nandi from the Botanical Survey of India, Howrah were present, while Bikash Vishwas, Abhijit Banik, Tauqeer Sardar, Jyotirmay Pal and Sujoy Sarkar from Swapnopuro Shiksha Niketan were present.
