A Step towards Collective Sustainable Development with Engineers, Doctors and Agricultural Scientists

Kolkata, 14th March 2020: Progressive Forum of Engineers, Agriculture Scientists and Doctors organized a seminar on sustainable development with an aim of evolving the suggestive measures for improving the standard of lives for the people of West Bengal by means of socio-economic development and highlighted the importance of a harmonious relationship between nature and mankind at the West Bengal Veterinary Council Hall, Belgachhia today. Sri Purnendu Basu, the Honorable Minister-in-Charge, Department of TET & SD, Govt. of West Bengal inaugurated the day-long seminar. Sri Suvendu Adhikari, Honorable Minister-in-Charge, Department of Transport and WRIDD, Govt. of West Bengal graced the occasion as Chief Guest; Sri Subhasish Chakraborty, Honorable MP, Rajyasabha, Govt. of India and Dr. Debapriya Mallik, Former Chairman, PSC, West Bengal graced the occasion.

Multiple sessions were held on a multitude of topics concerning sustainable development such as Use of Green Energy, Organic Farming, Sustainable Agriculture, need to establish a culture of low cost engineering and also prescribing low-cost medicines, importance of Restoring the Lost Glory of Naturopathy,  Prevention of Corona virus in the esteemed presence of acclaimed engineer officers, agricultural scientist and doctors from all over West Bengal working in various departments of the government of West Bengal. Prof. Dr. Biswajit Ghosh, V.C Neotia University, Prof. Dr. Shyamal Majumdar, Head of UNESCO – UNEVOC, Dr. Debarshi Bakshi, Principal, IRIIM, Dr. Amit Chaudhuri, Former Assistant Director, CDAC, and SriAmit Gupta, Economist and many other dignitaries conducted sessions to enlighten and raise awareness about the importance of sustainable development and its effects.

Along with sustainability the summit highlighted the importance of prescribing low-cost medication, and popularizing naturoveda. Acclaimed doctors from all West Bengal talked about the benefits of using natural medicines and empowering those who cannot afford expensive healthcare and medication. Specific sessions were dedicated to educate and discuss the current pandemic Corona Virus and its prevention by Prof. Dr. Animesh Deb, Professor, Kishanganj Medical College, Bihar.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Soumen Basu, President, Progressive Forum of Engineers, Agriculture Scientists and Doctors said, “In the last decade, the world has seen such extreme social and environmental conditions due to global warming, and pollution; as educated and privileged members of the society it is our responsibility to start the conversation around sustainability, low cost engineering and naturopathy. We are extremely honored to have experts from different disciplines to educate us with their erudite presentations about various relevant issues and motivating us to ask questions on not just environmental sustainability but also economical.”

The summit highlighted the relevance of green initiatives and sustainable strategies, especially in today’s time. Sustainability can touch and improve thousands of lives. A sustainable initiative is one that doesn’t leave behind economic, environmental and most importantly human rights wreckage in its wake and in 2020 it is easier than ever for businesses to incorporate sustainability into their corporate strategy.
