Insights from Trend Micro’s R2R event: Navigating Modern Threat Landscapes

Kolkata, 25th April 2024 – Trend Micro, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, marked the beginning of its Risk to Resilience World Tour in India with an impactful event at Kolkata recently. This event kick-started a comprehensive tour covering seven cities across India, following the success of last year’s tour, which spanned over 60 countries, including visits to five major cities in India.

With over 70 esteemed security leaders in attendance, representing 40 organizations, the event in Kolkata set a dynamic tone for the 2024 tour. The event-themed “Innovation meets adrenaline,” featured insightful discussions on topics such as modern cyber resilience, the convergence of Extended Detection and Response (XDR) with Attack Surface Risk Management (ASRM), and strategies for mitigating cloud risks.

Key highlights included a fireside chat with a representative from AWS, shedding light on cloud security challenges, and a panel discussion on cyber consolidation and communication strategies, featuring Mr. Sandeep Sengupta, Director at ISOAH, and Mr. Surya Bhushan, Head of IT & Security Infrastructure at Mjunction Services Ltd.

Sharda Tickoo, who was recently appointed as the Country Manager for India & SAARC at Trend Micro delivered a keynote session wherein she outlined the current cyber threat landscape of the Indian market, emphasizing the growing attack surface and the persistent threat of ransomware, phishing, and business email compromise. Her session also covered emerging trends such as AI-driven fraud and novel attacks bypassing multi-factor authentication (MFA), underscoring the need for continuous innovation in cybersecurity solutions.

Highlighting the significance of the Eastern India market, Sharda noted Trend Micro’s 15-year presence in the region and the increasing demand for unified platform-based solutions and Security Operations Center as a Service (SOCaaS), reflecting the region’s growing maturity in technology and cybersecurity.

The company’s latest annual roundup report revealed India as the 5th most targeted country worldwide for ransomware attacks, ranking 4th in Asia and leading in Southern Asia. Despite a global decline of 18%, the banking sector remains at high risk, ranking 4th globally and 3rd in Asia due to malware threats.
Trend Micro remains committed to supporting organizations in Eastern India and beyond, aligning with regulatory guidelines and evolving customer needs to ensure a resilient cybersecurity landscape for all.
