About Us:

Dr. Ghosh Charitable Trust has been set up by eminent neurosurgeon Dr. Siddhartha Ghosh with the singular vision of upliftment of people who are less fortunate to avail medical treatments especially for brain tumors and other neurological disorders.

Besides, the trust extends financial assistance to promising, brilliant students, who are economically backward, to continue their higher studies. It also provides medical help to less fortunate people and those belonging to the BPL group in order to keep them healthy. The trust also aims to keep the younger generation fit, mentally and physically, through its School Health Program. The trust started functioning from June 2001 when it was registered in Chennai.

Our Vision: The trust believes that if some of the more fortunate people extend their   co-operation to the lesser fortunate then this benevolent gesture will not only bring happiness to the downtrodden but will also promote national unity.

Surgeries on Brain and Spine: The trust started its modest beginning by doing complicated life-saving surgeries on Brain and Spine with complete or partial assistance from the Trust. Our Managing Trustee Dr. Siddhartha Ghosh and his team perform the surgery .The surgeries till date were done at Apollo Specialty Hospital, Chennai, Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata and SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Center, Kattankulathur, Chennai 214 such operations were done till date.

Our Clinics: Today the cost of medical treatment has increased to such an extent that it has become a dream for the economically backward people to avail even the basic medical services. Medical institutions run by the government have become overcrowded and are unable to cope up with the rush of patients. At the same time, the treatment costs in the corporate hospitals have sky-rocketed. Therefore, to fulfill the vision of providing an affordable medical treatment to the people living below the poverty line, the Trust has set up FREE CLINIC at Ultadanga in North Kolkata. A new Clinic is also in operation at Muchibazar in North Kolkata.

At Chennai, discussion is going on to set-up one such clinic in association with Madras Kali-Bari at West Mambalam. Also, a diagnostic Centre is being planned.

In these clinics, Trust has tried to cover most of the areas in medical treatment. Everyday provide regular free General Clinic for the unfortunate people. We also have free specialized clinics like Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Neurology, Orthopedic and Ophthalmology. A fully equipped Dental Clinic has started in Muchibazar twice a week as well and one day at the Ultadanga clinic.

Physiotherapy unit is made available for these poor patients at Ultadanga clinic. At an average 10,500 -12,000 patients get medical treatment from these two clinics per year.

Free Medication: The trust has observed that just providing free medical consultation is not enough. The escalating price of medicines has become a big hindrance for many. Many patients therefore stop their treatment mid-way, even before getting fully cured. To overcome this, the trust introduced the idea of providing free medicine along with the free consultation.

Different philanthropic Pharmaceutical organizations and Medical Practitioners help us with free medicines [samples] so that these poor patients are benefited. The Trust also procures medicines from open market to meet up the shortfall.

Diagnostic Facilities: To provide complete treatment we have started a Diagnostic Unit at Ultadanga at Kolkata where people can get their tests done at an affordable cost. All possible laboratory tests are carried out in this Center. We are providing special discounted rate for the Senior Citizens who are provided with ADVANTAGE CARD by Helpage India.ECG, ECHO and EEG are also done in this centre. A state-of-the-art digital X-ray unit is functional from July, 2013 (X-Ray unit is donated by the State Bank of India).

We have started an USG unit [USG Machine donated by” PARAMPARIK -The Tradition” an NGO] at Ultadanga centre.

The laboratory received on automated biochemistry analyzer from Merek in December, 2013 (Donated by Mr. Amitabh Goswami and Mr. Branko from Syelvey Australia, through the Rotary Club of India, Renaissance and Rotary Club of South Australia, Parametta Branch).TMT and Holter monitoring also started from December, 2013 (Donated by the some group).

BRAIN Scholarship:  The Trust gives full financial support along with books to brilliant students who are financially weak to pursue MBBS course in different states. At present, students in West Bengal, Kerala and Chennai are given full financial support to study MBBS course from the State Government Medical Colleges.

The scholarship carries the tuition fees, examination fees, admission fees, hostel fees, mess charges, books and equipment costs. It is given to students of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu with a total of 64 scholars at present.

We are proud to say that four of our sponsored students have cleared M.B.B.S course successfully from R. G. Kar Medical College, Medinipore Medical College and SSKM Medical College in 2015. And Six students cleared this year from West Bengal. We pray for them to be good humane doctors.

Newest Activities: The Trust has started three new activities as below.

  • BRAIN Nursing Service has started at Apollo Specialty Hospital, Vanagaram. We have a modest start with only 10 nurses under the efficient coordination of Sister Girija John. We are planning to increase the number to at last 40 – 50. These nurses look after the seriously ill neurosurgical and cardiothoracic patients who need intense monitoring.
  • BRAIN Guest House – A guest house facility has started with the A/C, non A/C rooms and Dormitory. Food services also started ..
  • At Pandua, Hooghly, West Bengal the Trust has enrolled about 50 families among whom each member will be tested for anemia and other basic medical facilities. All the family members above the age of 40 years will be tested for high blood pressure and diabetes also. Regular follow-up and medicine distribution are being done to control anemia, high blood pressure and diabetes. If these diseases can be controlled, people will be spared of its complications.

If the model succeeds in Pandua, We will try in other towns and villages gradually.

The trust brings out a quarterly medical journal in English, Bengali and Tamil. The Trust is also running a micro-clinic under the flagship of “BRAIN” at Ultadanga. In this clinic a state-of-the-art laboratory services to the slum dwellers and people in need. At BRAIN tests for anemia, blood sugar, Holter monitoring, TMT, Hepatitis B and HIV tests are done. Other than these services BRAIN is fully equipped with ECG, EEG, USG, ECHO, Digital X-RAY and Physiotherapy.
