Real time flood updates now just a click away, ensures WB Govt
The West Bengal Government has reached a milestone by taking the state’s flood management system to a new high. Now, flood updates will be a mouse click away from the minister, officials and district administrations – with more accurate data on a real time basis.
The state Irrigation and Waterways department has developed a system – Software Requirement Specification (SRS) – which enables the administration to instantly take stock of flood situations in various districts.
At least 500 executive engineers, who are presently in charge of River Gauge Station and Rain Gauge Station, will update the data immediately from the spot of flood occurrence.
“This system software is a pioneering effort, done by our department. The Chief Minister will name this project soon” said state Irrigation and Waterways Minister Rajib Banerjee.
“The earlier system of flood data collection was a bit lengthy and took almost a day to update. The executive engineers used to collect data and send it to the headquarters to be updated on the website.
“This is an unparalleled project in the history of the irrigation and waterways department. The Chief Minister has guided us throughout to make it possible,” the Minister said.
Clicking the home page of the department’s website and choosing the option of Daily Flood Report will take web surfers to the page with the updated flood related data.

রাজ্যের মুকুটে এবার জুড়ল নতুন পালক। বন্যা প্রতিরোধের জন্য রাজ্যের উদ্যোগে চালু হচ্ছে বন্যা নিয়ন্ত্রণ ব্যবস্থা। এখন মাউসের একটা কিল্কেই জানা যাবে বন্যা সংক্রান্ত সব খবরাখবর।
রাজ্য সেচ ও জলপথ বিভাগের সিস্টেম উন্নত করা হয়েছে – Software Requirement Specification (SRS)- এর মাধ্যমে প্রশাসন বিভিন্ন জেলার বন্যা পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে অবিলম্বে পদক্ষেপ নিতে সক্ষম হবে।
৫০০ জন ইঞ্জিনিয়ার এখন River Gauge Station এবং Rain Gauge Station এর ইন চার্জ। তাঁরা সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বন্যায় ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত এলাকাগুলি থেকে আপডেট জানাবেন।
রাজ্য সেচ ও জলপথ মন্ত্রী রাজীব বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় জানান, “মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী শীঘ্রই এই প্রকল্পের একটি নাম দেবেন”।
আগে এই বন্যা সংক্রান্ত সব খবর সংগ্রহ পদ্ধতিটি বেশ দীর্ঘ ছিল এবং এটি করতে প্রায় ১ দিন সময় লেগে যেত। এক্সিকিউটিভ ইঞ্জিনিয়ার সব খবর সংগ্রহ করতেন এবং তারপর তা হেড কোয়ার্টারে প[আথাতেন এবং তারপর তারপর সেই খবর ওয়েবসাইটে আপডেট করা হত।
মন্ত্রী জানান, “এই সেচ ও জলপথ বিভাগের ইতিহাসে এটি একটি অদ্বিতীয় প্রকল্প। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী এই প্রকল্পের পথ প্রদর্শক তার সবসরকম সহায়তায় এটা করা সম্ভব হয়েছে”।
