Volvo expresses intention to set up unit in Bengal
A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee invited investors to set up automobile unit in the state, Swedish automobile giant Volvo has expressed intention to establish a unit.
“I spoke with Volvo (representatives) today. We will give them 25 acres in Panagarh industrial park,” the CM told reporters. “They will have a setup there. We have given them land,” she said, adding details will be shared later.
Bengal has a land bank and policy ready for investors, she reiterated. The Swedish multinational approached the government for land to set up a base in the state.
The Chief Minister recently visited Germany and Italy seeking investment from global giants like BMW.

সিঙ্গুর দিবসের মঞ্চ থেকে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বুধবার বিনিয়োগকারীদের গাড়ি শিল্পে বাংলায় লগ্নি করার আহ্বান জানান। তার একদিন পরেই সুইডেনের গাড়ি নির্মাতা ভলভো রাজ্যে একটি কারখানা গড়ার আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করেছে।
“আজ আমার ভলভোর সাথে কথা হয়েছে। আমরা রাজ্যের তরফে তাদের পানাগড়ে ২৫ একর জমি দেব,” জানান মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।
বাংলার নিজস্ব ল্যান্ড ব্যাঙ্ক ও ল্যান্ড ম্যাপ রয়েছে, বলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। সেপ্টেম্বর মাসেই লগ্নির খোঁজে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী জার্মানি সফরে গেছিলেন।
