West Bengal sweetshop owners organization “Paschimbanga Mistanna Byabasayee Samity” called for a 24 hours strike on 21st August 2017 across Bengal in protest of GST on Bengal sweets.
They told the press that VAT was not there and hence there should not be any GST as sweets of Bengal comes under perishable goods.
The further added that they will be on relay hunger strike from 24-26th August 2017 to show the unity among the members in this case.
At present except curd and paneer 5% GST has been taxed on sweets.
Almost 150000 shops in Bengal will be on strike.
