Hyderabad-based DJ Gaurav Mehta talks about raising the bar with his groovy music
Hyderabad’s electronic and house music scene was in its nascent stage when Gaurav Mehta decided to become a DJ. But that didn’t bother him much. For him, it was all about mixing tunes and contributing to the city’s circuit by giving partygoers a new genre to explore. “I love music. Even when I’m not performing, I’m spending time at the studio creating my own music,” he says.
Interestingly, his first stint with music came from dance. As a child, he began to learn Western dance and was also mentored by popular dancer Shiamak Davar. It was during his practise sessions that he would pay a lot of attention to the music playing in the background and That was around the time I was introduced to pop and electronic music. I started listening to them more on the internet and I was blown by the sound and how it made me feel,” he shares, adding that’s when he decided to start DJing as a professional choice. His first gig, he recollects, was at The Park Vizag in 2016 and there has been no looking back since then.
Over the years, Gaurav has carved a niche for himself with his energetic hip-hop, bass and house music. He has played alongside DJ Snake and Kygo (Sunburn Arena), Vini Vici (Dance Affair Arena), Bass Jackers (Mood Indigo IIT Mumbai), Nucleya (Sub Cinema) and the India tour with Time Out. It is his love for the music that has been taking him places. “This journey has been challenging in a good way. I’ve learnt a lot both in terms of music and living the life. All I want to do is perform more and raise the bar with my music,” Gaurav signs off.
