To celebrate the cultural richness of India at the newly created cultural spaces a series of performances are taking place at the National Library, Indian Museum, Metcalfe Hall in the city. It is to popularize several heritage places with a blend of cultural programmes.
The series got inaugurated at the National Library on 7 Jan 2020 with the performance of Chhau artists from Purulia, followed by songs by Soumyajit & Surendra ( You & I ) and Odissi recital by Dona Ganguly and Dikshamanjari troupe. She performed on Mangalacharan ( Vishnu Vandana ), Pallavi which deals with various rhythms, Ardhanarishwar ( Featuring Dona Ganguly, Raghunath Das ) followed by Vandemataram and dance on a Bollywood hit song Desh Rangeela.
The series had other performances like Dohar performed at Indian Museum on 8 Jan while Pt Tarun Bhattacharya, Supriyo Dutta. Fouzia Dastango will be performing on 10 Jan at Metcalfe Hall. The entire cultural extravaganza has been initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.Dona Ganguly says,” It feels great to be part of such a unique initiative.It’s an honor indeed. It would help to grow respect for our heritage, a culture amongst the young generation.”
