SHARAD SUNDARI 2021 CURTAIN-RAISER
The Curtain-raiser of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers In Association With ‘Khukumoni’ Sindoor & Aalta ‘SHARAD SUNDARI 2021’ was presented at Spring Club on 9th November 2021.
‘Sharad Sundari’, as we all know, is a very popular and much awaited annual hunt for the face with the most festive look during Durga Puja; and this year it is on its 9th edition.
In previous years, the hunt for the face was conducted at popular puja pandals, premium housing societies and premier college campuses; and the last two years, because of Covid-19 restrictions, the search was
entirely online.
And, as it turned out, the number of hopeful contestants beat the records of all the earlier editions.
This year, out of over 18,876 enrolments, 75 contestants were short-listed from a virtual screening last month; and they were invited to participate in the live prelim – earlier this week – which resulted in the selection of the 12 finalists – after 3 rounds of judging by an eminent panel of judges from the sphere of beauty and fashion.
Additionally, a separate category for married women has been introduced from this year; and three ‘Mrs Sharad Sundari’ finalists were also selected from many an interesting contestant.
And the Curtain-raiser – at Spring Club, on 9th November – presented these 15 Finalists on stage even as members of the news media and other guests kept guessing on the face with the most winning look.
“Sharad Sundari started as a dream initiative to add a new dimension to all the celebration of the festive season and provide a platform for young girls with stars in their eyes”, said Arpita Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Company Jewellers, “and, today, we are really happy to see that it has lived up to that promise and has grown into a very popular and much-awaited annual hunt for the face with the most festive look during Durga Puja”.

“This year, like last year, the preparations for ‘Sharad Sundari’ started with a challenge,” said Rupak Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers, explaining, “Covid-19 restrictions posed many a problem but we managed to convert it all into an opportunity by reinventing the format and opening the flood gates of response by going online.”
The Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers ‘Sharad Sundari’ Finale is scheduled to be held at Calcutta Boating Club on 27th November, and, before that, the 15 finalists will be taken through a week-long grooming session with star trainers to prepare them for the centre-stage.
And, at the finale, a distinguished panel of judges will together decide on the winner of the ‘Sharad Sundari 2021’ title, two runners-up and the best in related categories of winning eyes, hair, skin, voice and talent.
The winning faces will get to feature in the advertising campaigns of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers, Khukumoni and other associated brands; and this exposure will launch them in the world of beauty and fashion – which is the very purpose of ‘Sharad Sundari’.
