BSF ENHANCED STRICTNESS ON BORDER AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING, RESCUED 33 WOMEN IN 2021

BSF, South Bengal Frontier had deployed Anti Human Trafficking Unit on January 15, 2021, identifying vulnerable areas for human trafficking in its border area. They have been deployed to rescue victims of human trafficking and to nab touts.

Today, on January 15, 2022, Anti Human Trafficking Unit has completed its 01 year tenure. Simultaneously, the Anti Human Trafficking Units(AHTU) deployed on the International Border have rescued 33 victims (28 women and 05 minor girls) in 29 cases from being caught in the illegal business of human trafficking during the last 12 months in the year 2021 and 33 traffickers have also been arrested along with them. Although after the deployment of Anti Human Trafficking Unit in the sensitive area on the border, the cases of human trafficking have reduced and needs lot of time to eradicated. To root out the cases of human trafficking, as much as it is necessary to put the touts (buyers) behind the bars, it is equally important to make the poor and innocent girls aware about the heinous act of human trafficking (swamp). So that no girl(women) can fall prey to these human traffickers.

In statement issued by the BSF, it was stated that in most of the cases it has been observed that human traffickers lure poor innocent girls (women) for making money by promising good jobs like beauty parlor, bar dancer, helper in gym, massage parlour, waiter work, house maid etc. and pushed them into the inhuman business of prostitution and touts take advantage of them.

What is Anti Human Trafficking Unit?

The Anti Human Trafficking Unit, an important part of the BSF South Bengal Frontier, is trying to stop human trafficking by staying on the International Border. It was deployed by the South Bengal Frontier on January 15, 2021 to check the heinous crimes of human trafficking in the border areas.

Strict action against human traffickers

Surjit Singh Guleria, Senior Spokesperson and DIG of South Bengal Frontier stated that it is often seen that brokers involved in human trafficking bring poor and gullible girls of Bangladesh across the border with the lure of good jobs and money and pushed into abominable work like prostitution. These days BSF is taking very strict steps to stop human trafficking on the border. All the Anti Human trafficking Units under the leadership of Inspector General of South Bengal Frontier have been deployed on the border. The main objective of the Anti Human Trafficking Unit is to nab all the syndicates involved in human trafficking and hand them over to the law and put them behind bars.
