Teen Aryaman’s Tabla Solo
An 11-year-old prodigy, Aryaman’s recent solo tabla online recital for The Music Box, Bangladesh, was certainly impressive for his age. He began cautiously with jhap-taal, presenting the traditional peskar, kayada, rela, and played.
Thereafter, he motored to madhyalaya teen-taal decently executing the kaida, rela, gat, padan, tukra and loggi. Mention can be made of his overall execution of relas (dhiri kit, tiri kit); the loggi towards the end being no less palatable.
It seems the cub has imbibed well – especially the nuances of Farrukhabad and Benaras gharanas – from his only guru Pt. Subhas Kanti Das, a native of Panihati, South 024 Parganas, now settled in Delhi. Incidentally, since, the recital day happened to be dadaguru, renowned tabla-player Pt. Samar Saha’s birthday, young Aryaman dedicated this programme to him.
