AFC Champions League™ (East) 2022 challengers set for Round of 16 showdown in Japan
The fate of two former champions and first-time title chasers will be decided when the keenly anticipated AFC Champions League™ (East) Round of 16 gets underway on August 18, 2022 in centralised venues in Saitama, Japan.
In a clash between clubs from the Korea Republic, Group F winners Daegu FC face familiar rivals and two-time title winners Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC, who advanced from the Group Stage as one of the three best second-placed sides, at the Urawa Komaba Stadium at 5pm (local time).
With a place in the Quarter-finals at stake, home sides Vissel Kobe, the 2020 Semi-finalists, and Yokohama F. Marinos are in action three hours later at the Saitama Stadium 2002.
After advancing to the final 16 for the first time, Kitchee SC of Hong Kong will look to build on their momentum when they meet Thailand’s BG Pathum United at the Urawa Komaba Stadium on August 19 at 5pm.
Another Knockout Stage debutant, Johor Darul Ta’zim of Malaysia, who impressed in the Group Stage, will take on two-time champions Urawa Red Diamonds in what is expected to be an enthralling battle at the Saitama Stadium 2002 at 8pm.
Following the conclusion of the Round of 16 campaign, the Quarter-finals and Semi-finals (East) draw ceremony is set to take place in Japan on August 20 at 11am.
The four winners of the Round of 16 will have their names in one pot, with the first and second balls drawn to be placed as Team A while the remaining balls shall be placed as Team B in Quarter-finals 1 and 2 respectively.
The AFC Champions League™ (East) Quarter-finals will take place on August 22 followed by the Semi-finals three days later in Japan where the winners advance to the two-legged Finals against their West region counterpart, scheduled for February 19 and 26, 2023.
