The British Deputy High Commission Kolkata launched the UK-India Sports Calendar 2023 in collaboration with Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club in Kolkata today.

The Sports Calendar was launched by Ms. Christina Scott, British Deputy High Commissioner to India and Mr. Nick Low, British Deputy High Commissioner to Kolkata, Mr. Prabir Roy Chowdhury, Advisor, Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club, and Ms. Poulomi Ghatak, Olympian and table tennis player.

The UK-India Sports Calendar features photographs of UK-India sporting events captured by nine sports journalists from Kolkata. The contributing photographers are Abhijit Addya, Arindam Banerjee, Debasish Datta, Debasish Sen, Elora Sen, Rony Roy, Sabyasachi Sarkar, Suven Raha, and Tapan Mohanta.

Ms. Christina Scott, British Deputy High Commissioner to India, said: “I’m delighted to be in Kolkata for the first time. Congratulations to all the sports journalists who have contributed to the UK-India Sports Calendar. The UK has a global sporting reputation – one that’s underpinned by the presence of several huge sports brands and an unrivalled experience of delivering global sporting events. It’s also the leading European SportsTech market equipped with some of the world’s leading venture capital and investment funds, an array of leading academic and sporting institutions, and innovative and creative companies.”

Mr. Nick Low, British Deputy High Commissioner to East and Northeast India said: Whether it’s England, India, and Wales contesting the Hockey World Cup in Odisha, Cheteshwar Pujara scoring runs in England and Jos Buttler scoring runs in India, or Manchester United’s recent roadshow in Kolkata, sport unites us. It builds bridges between people.  And it’s been at the heart of the living bridge between our two great countries since the nineteenth century. Those ties are stronger than ever and they are what we celebrate in our UK/India GREAT Sports Calendar.”

Mr. Suven Raha, President of the Calcutta Sports Journalists Club said: “The Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club thanks the British Deputy High Commission Kolkata, for coming forward in bringing out this UK-India Sports Calendar 2023. Sports has this unique ability to transcend borders and we feel this collaboration will further strengthen the socio-cultural tie between the UK and the City of Joy. We look forward to more such meaningful endeavours in the future.”
