UK and West Bengal seeks cooperation towards tackling Cyber Security Challenges

Kolkata, 27 March 2023: Mr. Peter Cook, Acting British Deputy High Commissioner to Kolkata said that the UK and West Bengal should strive together to tackle global cyber security challenges.

He was speaking at a conference hosted by British Deputy High Commission Kolkata on ‘UK-India Cooperation towards tackling Cyber Security Challenges’ in partnership with Cyber Peace Foundation and Jadavpur Association of International Relations in Kolkata today.

Mr. Babul Supriyo, Hon’ble Minister for IT and Electronics, Govt. of West Bengal delivered the keynote speech.

Mr. Peter Cook, Acting British Deputy High Commissioner to Kolkata said:“Cyber security is a global challenge and we must collaborate with actors at local level including the police to thwart cyber attacks and ensure security for governments, businesses and individuals. The UK, India and West Bengal are working together to tackle the vast challenges of cyber security and harness the opportunities it creates.”

Mr. Dominic Gillan, First Secretary, Cyber Programmes, British High Commission, New Delhi said: “The complexity and severity of the cyber threat to India and the UK is increasing. Our Prime Ministers have jointly announced an Enhanced Cyber Security Partnership between our two countries, working closely with industry, academia and law enforcement towards a whole-of-society approach to increasing our mutual cyber resilience. Discussing our experiences and approaches is so important to help us react together to the evolving threat to all of us.”

Mr. Vineet Kumar, Founder and Global President, Cyber Peace Foundation said: “We at Cyber Peace are thrilled to witness the deepening of cybersecurity cooperation between the UK and India, especially in East and North East India.  The launch of Multi stakeholder Cyber Peace Cluster, Cyber Peace hub(Odisha) and other collaborations is an example of the shared commitment of both nations to fostering a secure and resilient cyber ecosystem. By leveraging each other’s expertise and resources, the UK and India are paving the way for a more robust cyber security infrastructure that safeguards the interests of netizens, businesses, academia, civil societies and governments alike. Cyber Peace is pleased to collaborate and support such initiatives, as they contribute to a resilient, more inclusive, peaceful cyberspace.”

The conference had thematic sessions on ‘Cyber Security: Tackling Challenges and Creating Opportunities’, ‘Online Harassment and Bullying’; ‘Combatting Cyber Crimes: Legal Mechanisms’.
