Noted Danseuse Guru Urmila Bhaumick presented Vande Nrityam on stage after Four Years
Vande Nrityam, an annual event of Noted Danseuse Urmila Bhaumick was staged recently at Rabindra Sadan after a gap of four years. The COVID-19 pandemic put a brake on this decade-old program held annually in Kolkata.
This was presented by TEAM URMILA. The director-choreographer wanted to present something special this time.
Started with a short snippet based on the story of initiation into the age-old Mahari episode.
Followed by a few Odissi pieces composed by Urmila which she is developing as a new technique to create interest in Odissi amongst the present generation. The tiny tots in their colourful attire showed us different elements of nature. They grabbed the heart of the audience easily. Urmila tried a few very different FUSIONS, not seen before, and appreciated thoroughly.
The programme ended with a newly made dance drama, PRITHWI O PRAKRITI written by Dipanwita Roy set to tune by Joy Sarkar. Voice rendering by LOPAMUDRA MITRA, SUBHOMITA ROY CHOWDHURY, INDRANI SEN, RUPANKAR, ANIDYO BASU, SRIKANTO ACHARYA and Joy Sarkar. KALYAN SEN BARAT, INDRADEEP DASGUPTA was present that day. Other eminent personalities were present to grace the occasion. Kohinoor Sen Barat gifted his widely appreciated AAMI while Uttiya Jana created the light arrangements.
It was a very enjoyable evening. The concept, dance direction, choreography, and dress concept by URMILA BHAUMIK.
