With banners flying high and spirits even higher, the Indian Army proudly announces the launch of the joint mountaineering expedition by the Indian Army and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling to Mt Chomo Yummo, showcasing a collaborative effort that exemplifies the valour, adventurism, and indomitable spirit of the Indian Armed Forces.

A momentous Flagging Off Ceremony on 29 Aug 2023 signalled the formal commencement of the joint mountaineering expedition to conquer the towering peak of Mt Chomo Yommo standing at an altitude of 6829m on the Great Himalayan Range in North Sikkim. The expedition was flagged off by the General Officer Commanding the Trishakti Corps, in a ceremonial event that took place in an atmosphere of pride and anticipation.

Mt Chomo Yummo, with an altitude of 6829m, is a deeply respected and revered peak in North Sikkim and is considered as a ‘Female Deity’. The peak attracts the attention of ace mountaineers from across the world.

The expedition, which is planned to be completed in the month of September, demonstrates the Indian Army’s ongoing commitment to train its military personnel to handle diverse challenges with precision and skill and progress on the path of transformation. In conjunction with HMI, Darjeeling, the expedition will foster a collaborative association towards jointly tackling varied challenges.

The challenging journey demands physical endurance, strategic thinking, and camaraderie as the soldiers navigate through rugged landscapes at extreme altitudes. Their journey will not only be a display of their abilities but also represent the Indian Army’s unflinching commitment to safeguarding its national security in the most arduous terrain. This challenging endeavour is being planned and executed by officers and soldiers of the Trishakti Corps and is a testament to the Indian Army’s resolve to uphold national security, and sovereignty and demonstrate its penchant for excellence.
