SUCCESSFUL LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY PERFORMED FOR THE FIRST TIME AT WORKSHOP RAILWAY HOSPITAL, KANCHRAPARA

Workshop Railway Hospital, Kanchrapara performed a remarkable medical achievement in the field of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy by Dr. Ujjal Parui, Surgeon, and Dr. Saswati Das, Anaesthetist. A 45-year-old female patient, non-diabetic and non-hypertensive, was suffering from chronic calculus cholecystitis (symptomatic Gall stone Disease) with a history of recurrent abdomen pain and vomiting since April 2023 and was admitted to the Hospital with severe pain in the abdomen recently. Upon thorough evaluation, the medical team identified that she was suffering from calculus cholecystitis, accompanied by three large stones, the largest one 2 cm (approx.) impacted within the gall bladder lumen. She has undergone Laparoscopic cholecystectomy on 06.09.2023. The operation was a very difficult case due to recurrent infection. There was adhesion and the gall bladder was contracted with a thick oedematous wall making the procedure cumbersome. There was oozing of blood and blurring the operating field while dissecting the cystic duct and cystic artery because of the adhered duodenum.
After a meticulous dissection, the Doctor successfully clipped the cystic duct and artery and finally removed the gall bladder from the liver Bed. This achievement demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to advanced medical care.
