REMARKABLE FREIGHT LOADING PERFORMANCE OF EASTERN RAILWAY

Eastern Railway, though popularly known as a passenger-carrying Railway is striving hard towards excellence in freight loading. Shri Shri Milind K Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway has sensitized all the officials concerned with freight loading to explore all possibilities of increasing the freight volume of Eastern Railway to grab a major share in the freight transport business in this region.
Eastern Railway has achieved a remarkable increase in freight loading in the month of January this year compared to that of the previous fiscal. The total loading of Eastern Railway in the month of January 2024 was recorded as 8.18 million tonnes compared to 7.22 million tonnes in January 2023. The total originating freight earnings of Eastern Railway in the month of January 2024 were recorded as ₹ 742.51 crores, showing an increase of 21.12% over ₹ 613.04 crores earned in January 2023.
In respect of cumulative freight performance, the total loading of Eastern Railway in the current financial year. from April, 2023 to January, 2024 recorded as 67.95 million tonnes compared to 65.25 Million Tonnes loaded in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. The freight earnings of Eastern Railway from April, 2023 to January, 2024 also showed a remarkable increase of 15.35% by achieving freight earnings of ₹ 6002.42 crores for the period from April,2023 to January, 2024 compared to ₹ 5195.82 crores earned during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
