RPF DETAINED THREE PASSENGERS OF MAITREE EXPRESS AT KOLKATA STATION FOR CARRYING RESTRICTED ITEMS
Kolkata, February 10, 2024:
On February 7th, 2024, a team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division conducted a raid at the Kolkata railway station platform near the exit gate. During the operation, three passengers and their baggage were detained for carrying excess and restricted items without proper documentation.
The passengers, were identified as Shakib Ali Daldar, S.K. Ezaludin, and Mohd. Asif Ali were all Indian nationals to travelled on train number 13108 (Maitree Express) to Dhaka, Bangladesh. Upon inspection, RPF officers discovered a significant amount of undeclared and potentially restricted items in their possession. These included:
• Wine: 12 bottles, valued approximately at Rs. 61,600
• Mobile phones: 4 units, valued approximately at Rs. 54,000
• Sarees: Valued at Rs. 38,700
• Cosmetics: Valued at Rs. 30,689
• Medicines: Valued at Rs. 4,270
The total estimated value of the seized items amounted to Rs. 1,89,259.
As per protocol, the detained passengers and the seized items were handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and necessary action.
Divisional Railway Manager / Sealdah Shri Deepak Nigam urged passengers to declare all dutiable items accurately and possess proper documentation and adhering to customs regulations while traveling to avoid inconvenience and potential legal repercussions.
RPF personnel commended the vigilance of their team in the leadership of Shri Manoj Kumar Sr.DSC/Sealdah under the guidance of Shri Deepak Nigam DRM /Sealdah.
