TRAIN SERVICES OBSTRUCTED NEAR LAKE GARDEN STATION IN PROTEST AGAINST CLOSURE OF UNAUTHORISED PASSAGE

Train services in Ballygunje – Budge Budge section were affected this evening as a group of people obstructed train movement at a level crossing gate between Ballygunje & Lake Gardens stations from 17:40 hrs. today (18.2.2024) protesting against the closure of an unauthorised passage. The totally illogical demand of keeping alive an unauthorized passage has brought suffering to a lot of commuters during peak hours. The obstruction was withdrawn at 19:30 hrs. Afterwards normal train services on Ballygunge – Budge Budge section were resumed.

Train services in other lines of Sealdah South section viz. Lakshmikantapur, Diamond Harbour & Canning were however unaffected.

As a sequel to this obstruction near Lake Gardens station, 5 pairs of EMU local trains running through Budge Budge section were delayed enroute.

Chief Public Relations Officer/ Eastern Railway Shri Kausik Mitra said, “Eastern Railway repeated appeals to the people not to cross the railway track at unauthorised places as it can bring to fatal incidents. In spite of paying heed to this, a group of people likes to continue their unauthorised passage across the railway track which is not supportable. Eastern Railway requests all the passengers to protest against such irrational activities disrupting life and smooth Railway service”
