MEASURES TO STOP THE RECURRENCE OF SEEPAGE OF WATER IN PARK STREET METRO STATION
Kolkata, Date:22.07.2024
Metro Railway is the ‘Lifeline of Kolkata’ which provides fast, smooth, and snag-free journeys to all. All possible measures are always taken to ensure passengers’ safety on the Metro premises.
During Remal, which lashed Kolkata on 27.05.2024, unfortunately Park Street Metro station and adjoining tunnel got inundated affecting Metro services. Metro authorities took immediate action to drain out the water and resumed normal services within the shortest possible time.
A proper investigation with KMC officials has later revealed that the underground brick sewer of KMC, which is a century old, has pores and it has also silted up. The manhole wall also has holes that led to the water seepage into the station. It has been decided to plug these holes so that no such incident recurs in the future.
To arrest the seepage from the tunnel wall, Metro Railway has started grouting at different locations at Park Street Metro station. From 28.05.2024 to 15.07.2024, 645 bags of cement have been injected inside the Diaphragm Wall.
