Acropolis Mall, the Landmark Address in Kolkata, is Set to Reopen its Doors to All Patrons and Guests

Kolkata, August 02, 2024: Acropolis Mall, one of Kolkata’s most beloved landmark destinations, is all set to reopen on August 3rd. Once the epicenter of economic activities along the Rashbehari connector from Ruby Hospital, the mall is ready to bring back the hustle and bustle of visitors.

“We are reopening the mall on August 3rd, having received permission from the fire department. However However, some brands will be operational after few days due to on-going renovation. Almost 90% of the mall will be open. We received the permission from the fire department on July 29, and since then, we have been working tirelessly to prepare for the reopening. While the mall will reopen on August 3rd, some retailers, like Hoppipola, Chili’s, and Time Zone, will reopen after few days. All other brands, including Cinepolis and the food court, will be operational from 3rd August ,” said Subhadip Basu, GM of Acropolis Mall.
Acropolis Mall has been closed for over a month following a fire that broke out on June 14 at Crossword. The mall authority promptly evacuated everyone and informed the Fire Brigade, which efficiently extinguished the fire and smoke. The mall received permission from the fire department to restore power and reopen the office block from the 5th to the 20th floor on June 25. Since then, the mall management has been working on restoration, repair, and testing of fire and life safety provisions, and appealed for a fire inspection to reopen the mall. A fire inspection took place on July 5, and the mall authority received clearance from the Fire Department to reopen on July 29.

According to Subhadip Basu, of Acropolis Mall, all restoration and repair work on electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, lifts, escalators, and painting has been completed. “The fire safety work is also finished, and the painting is done. The inspection was conducted on July 5, and the authorities were satisfied with the results. We are now conducting deep cleaning, mock fire safety drills, and notifying retailers.
Since the opening in 2015, the epicenter of economic activity in South Kolkata, the mall and its surroundings wore a deserted look over the past month. Acropolis Mall used to have an average daily footfall of 15,000 people, with over 4500 individuals in the office block. This footfall supported local shops, restaurants, and small traders. The mall significantly boosted the local economy by attracting a daily population of around 20,000 people, leading to the establishment of various eateries, shops, and brands. Additionally, a host of boutique, budget, and guest hotels have opened, attracting tourists and business travelers. With 99 offices of multinational and national brands, the mall has created a mini Sector V in South Kolkata, increasing land prices in the area and its surroundings.

“Acropolis Mall provides direct and indirect employment to over 4,000 people and houses more than 110 outlets and shops. We are confident that our patrons will bring back the same enthusiasm to Acropolis Mall. The mall has operated seamlessly for the last nine years and has entertained millions of visitors. The mall used to generate an annual business of ₹700 crore, and a similar amount of business likely happens in the neighborhood outlets, contributing over ₹100 crore yearly in GST and other taxes,” said Subhadip Basu, GM of Acropolis Mall.

Local shops, eateries, cafes, and restaurant chains are eagerly awaiting the mall’s reopening, hoping for the return of their customers.
