Indian Army Undertaking Relief Operations in Flood Affected Areas of Himachal Pradesh
In response to recent natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh, the Indian Army has mobilised its resources to aid in relief operations. Following cloudbursts and small-scale landslides in various locations, the districts of Shimla and Mandi have been significantly affected.
Cloudburst in Samej Village (Jakhri), Shimla District
The Indian Army has promptly mobilised the following assets for rescue operations:
Three Columns with a total strength of about 125 personnel.
One Engineer Task Force.
One Medical Team consisting of about 20 personnel.
These columns are currently on location and actively engaged in rescue operations.
Cloudburst in Barot Village, Mandi District
Another cloudburst occurred in Barot village, situated 70 kilometers northwest of Mandi, resulting in 10 persons reported missing. The SDRF team is already on the ground to manage the situation.
UPDATE ON ARMY’S HADR OPERATION AT SAMEJ VILLAGE (HIMACHAL)
Road Condition: The road to the incident site was blocked due to a land shift approximately 2.5 kilometers short of the incident site. Troops moved on foot beyond the blockade. The Army’s Engineer Task Force (ETF) repaired the road and made it operational yesterday itself.
Engineer Equipment: Equipment was temporarily stuck at the blockade site but reached the incident site later after the road was repaired.
Improvised Foot Bridge: Construction was completed yesterday, facilitating the move of rescue teams towards the far bank of the river and the rescue of civilians stranded on the far bank.
Medical Camp: A medical camp was established by the Army at the incident site. Approximately 80-90 civilians were provided essential treatment and first aid.
Chief Minister’s Visit: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, along with the Deputy Commissioner of Shimla, was briefed by Army officials on the status of rescue operations at the incident site.
Distribution of Essential Commodities: Food packets, medicines, and other essential commodities were also provided to the affected civilians.
Search and Rescue Dog Team: A search and rescue dog team has been staged forward to Karcham and is being employed for the search operation.
The Indian Army remains committed to providing all possible assistance and support to the affected areas and residents.
