Sealdah Division’s commitment in eviction operations for removal of unauthorized encroachments at Dumdum Jn. station and circulating area.

Kolkata, August 10th, 2024.

In an endeavor to ensure safety of Railway operations and passengers’ security, Sealdah division has planned an eviction drive at Dumdum Junction today (10.08.2024) in order to ensure safety and security of commuters and at the same time to prioritize safety in Railway operations. It has been noticed that, scattered merchandize and unauthorized occupants are leaving inadequate space for passengers for boarding/de-boarding at Dumdum, thereby endangering both passengers’ life and Railway operations.

In recent past it transpired that, Railway track leading to Titagarh Wagon Limited is dangerously occupied by local people through construction of shops and market right on the track, causing severe damage to the track, rendering them unfit for movement. Subsequently, Railway administration was constrained to suspend operations at Titagarh considering the bizarre condition of the track.

Railway Authority has observed that, when trains approach to busy station like Dumdum, a considerable number of hawkers and food vendors gather haphazardly within the limited space of the platform, putting life of daily passengers at risk and also endangering safety of train movement. Sealdah division is committed to protect Railway infrastructure by creating favourable environment for ease of movement of passengers.

In a bid to offer encroachment free spacious platforms, Sealdah Division has planned massive eviction drive at Dumdum Junction today to remove unauthorized encroachments. Adequate RPF security personnel were deployed for this purpose.

However, anti-social elements and huge unruly mob from a particular outfit created ruckus at station premises and circulating area causing potential threat to railway property and passenger life. Railways RPF and Station staff showed remarkable resilience and prevented any damage to railway property and prevented disruption of traffic by the unauthorised encroachers.

In recent past, eviction drives are being carried out by different Municipal Authorities to vacate unauthorized encroachment at streets, footpath etc. and proper police assistance has been provided there for ensuring success of eviction drives. Railway administration expects similar kind of security co-operation from local police authority in case of law and order problem during future eviction drives at stations.
