IIT Bhubaneswar Organises a Talk on Road Safety
Bhubaneswar, 7th November 2025:
IIT Bhubaneswar organized an awareness talk on Road Safety in association with the Nagpur-based NGO Janakrosh on 6th November 2025. Shri P. Y. Khandekar, President of Janakrosh, delivered the talk. It may be noted that Janakrosh actively works towards promoting road safety education across the country.
During his presentation, Shri Khandekar highlighted the importance of road safety and public awareness through engaging visuals and illustrations. He informed the audience about traffic regulations, common causes of accidents, and the grave consequences of negligence on the road. He particularly emphasized issues such as violation of traffic rules, driving or walking on the wrong side, over-speeding, use of mobile phones while driving, and not wearing helmets. His impactful presentation left a lasting impression on the audience, reinforcing the need for responsible behavior on the road.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules within the campus premises as well. He urged all members of the Institute to maintain a speed limit of 30 km/hr on campus and encouraged students to remain vigilant about traffic violations and report them when necessary.
With over 1.3 million global deaths and more than 172,000 fatalities in India in 2023 due to road accidents, initiatives like Janakrosh for a Better Tomorrow play a vital role in saving lives and fostering a culture of safety.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Shantanu Patra, Professor-in-Charge (Extra Academic Affairs), IIT Bhubaneswar, and witnessed the participation of more than 300 students, faculty members, staff, and campus residents.
