Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman, Bandhan Group receives the Governor’s Award of Excellence for his contribution to financial inclusion
Kolkata, 29th January 2026: Shri. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman, Bandhan Group and Founder & former Managing Director & CEO of Bandhan Bank, has been conferred the Governor’s Award of Excellence – Vande Mataram Puraskar 2026 by Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal at Lok Bhawan during the 77th Republic Day State Awards Ceremony.
The award recognizes Shri. Ghosh’s extraordinary contribution to financial inclusion, social entrepreneurship, and institution building in India. From his early work in the voluntary sector to pioneering micro-credit initiatives for women entrepreneurs, Shri. Ghosh has played a defining role in expanding access to formal finance for the marginalized sections of the society. Under his visionary leadership, Bandhan evolved into India’s largest microfinance institution and, in 2015, became a universal bank, the first new bank in Eastern India since Independence.
The Governor’s Award of Excellence honours Shri Ghosh’s lifelong commitment to social equity, innovation, and nation-building, acknowledging his lasting impact on India’s socio-economic development.
