Prime Minister Narendra Modi Visits Somnath Temple on 75th Anniversary of Rebuilt Shrine
Calls the Occasion a Milestone in Bharat’s Civilisational Journey

Narendra Modi on Sunday visited the historic Somnath Temple as the nation marked 75 years since the rebuilt temple was reopened for devotees, describing the occasion as a defining milestone in Bharat’s civilisational journey.
Sharing his experience after offering prayers at the sacred shrine, the Prime Minister said he felt spiritually blessed to be present at Somnath during the Amrut Mahotsav celebrations commemorating the temple’s historic reconstruction.
Shri Modi stated that the atmosphere surrounding the temple was filled with devotion, faith, and emotional energy as thousands of devotees gathered to participate in the celebrations. He remarked that witnessing the enthusiasm and spiritual dedication of devotees along the temple pathway deeply moved him.
The Prime Minister also reflected on the historical significance of the occasion, saying he could imagine the emotions experienced by India’s first President, Rajendra Prasad, during the inauguration of the rebuilt temple decades ago.
According to Shri Modi, the spiritual energy of Somnath transcends religion and represents the resilience, continuity, and cultural strength of Indian civilisation. He noted that devotion can be felt in every corner of Somnath and that the temple remains a symbol of Bharat’s enduring heritage.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote:
“Jai Somnath! Feeling blessed to be here, when we are marking 75 years since the rebuilt Temple opened its doors for devotees.”
The Somnath Temple, one of the most revered Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, holds immense historical, spiritual, and cultural significance in India. Its reconstruction after independence came to symbolize national revival and civilisational continuity.
The 75th anniversary celebrations witnessed large gatherings of devotees, spiritual leaders, and visitors from across the country, transforming Somnath into a focal point of faith and cultural remembrance.
