FIFA World Cup 2026 Opening Ceremony in Mexico City to Feature Star-Studded Global Line-up
Mexico City: The opening celebrations of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ are set to showcase a spectacular blend of football, music, and culture, with FIFA unveiling additional special guests and performers for the tournament’s inaugural ceremonies in Mexico City.
Representing the host nation, renowned Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández will perform the Mexican national anthem, while South African music sensation Tyla will sing South Africa’s national anthem, creating a symbolic moment of international unity before the tournament officially begins.
Adding further glamour to the occasion, Mexican-American Academy Award-nominated actress, director, and producer Salma Hayek Pinault, serving as a FIFA World Cup 2026 Ambassador, will welcome supporters to Mexico City and celebrate the unifying power of football on the world stage.
The entertainment programme will also feature Colombian artist Ryan Castro, who will join global music icon J Balvin for a special performance during the opening ceremony.
The festivities at Mexico City Stadium are scheduled to begin 90 minutes before kick-off, with the official opening ceremony starting at 11:30 a.m. local time. Stadium gates will open four hours before the match, allowing fans to participate in various interactive experiences, exclusive activations, rewards, and pre-match entertainment.
The ceremony will bring together an impressive lineup of international performers, including Belinda, Burna Boy, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, and Shakira, showcasing music from the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album.
As one of the tournament’s host nations, Mexico will launch what FIFA describes as a trilogy of opening celebrations, with subsequent ceremonies continuing across Canada and the United States during the expanded tournament.
FIFA has advised fans seeking tickets or hospitality packages to use only its official ticketing platform, where additional tickets may become available periodically. Eligible ticket holders can also access the official resale and exchange marketplace through FIFA’s authorized channels.
