Government Committed to Farmers’ Welfare Through Modern Agriculture and Income Support: PM Modi

By Suman Munshi | IBG NEWS

New Delhi, June 11, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reiterated the Central Government’s commitment to improving the lives of India’s farmers, emphasizing that the agricultural community remains the backbone of the nation’s food security, nutrition, and economic prosperity.

Highlighting various flagship initiatives aimed at strengthening the rural economy, the Prime Minister said the government is continuously working to reduce the financial burden on farmers while enhancing their productivity and income.

According to the Prime Minister, schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) have been instrumental in providing income support and financial security to cultivators across the country. He added that the PM-KUSUM initiative is helping farmers access affordable solar energy for agricultural purposes, thereby lowering operational costs and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Shri Modi also underscored the importance of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, stating that it has made low-interest institutional credit more accessible not only to farmers but also to livestock rearers and fishermen. Easy availability of credit, he noted, enables rural communities to invest in productive activities without relying heavily on informal sources of finance.

Referring to the government’s efforts to strengthen the agricultural value chain, the Prime Minister said the focus on a “seed-to-market” approach is aimed at ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their produce while improving market access and reducing inefficiencies in the supply chain.

Emphasizing modernization of agriculture as a national priority, he said the government has been encouraging the adoption of advanced technologies and scientific practices. Initiatives promoting the use of agricultural drones, Soil Health Cards, and natural fertilizers are helping farmers improve crop productivity, optimize resource utilization, and move towards more sustainable farming methods.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that farmers’ welfare remains one of the government’s highest priorities and that continued investments in modern agricultural infrastructure and technology will play a key role in strengthening India’s agricultural sector and rural economy.
