Love, Fear and the Unexplained: Katukutu Buro Teaser Promises a Haunting Cinematic Experience
Kolkata: The makers of Katukutu Buro have unveiled the official teaser of the much-anticipated film, offering audiences an enigmatic glimpse into a story where love, mystery and the supernatural intertwine. Directed by Ujaan Ganguly in his feature-film directorial debut, the movie is set to hit theatres on 24 July.
The nearly 90-second teaser begins in complete darkness, where a man struggles to breathe as the distant sounds of what appears to be a birthday celebration echo through the silence. With no explanation or warning, the sequence abruptly shifts to lighter moments—two close friends laughing carefree and a young boy joyfully holding a superhero action figure.
The mood then takes a chilling turn. The same child is seen walking alone at night, accompanied not by a toy, but by a life-sized version of the superhero figure. The teaser offers no answers, allowing the unsettling imagery to linger and inviting viewers to interpret its hidden meaning.
Blending moments of warmth with an undercurrent of dread, the teaser creates an atmosphere where reality and imagination seamlessly merge, leaving audiences intrigued about the mystery at the heart of the story.
The film stars the late Rahul Banerjee, Lama Halder, Anujoy Chattopadhyay, Ujaan Ganguly, and introduces Rapurna Bhattacharyya in her acting debut. The ensemble cast also includes Churni Ganguly, Biswanath Basu, Bhaswar Chatterjee, Biswajit Chakraborty, Shankar Chakraborty, and several others.
The film’s music has been composed by Debayan Banerjee, Ujaan Ganguly, and Cizzy.
Speaking about the teaser, director, writer and actor Ujaan Ganguly said:
“The teaser of Katukutu Buro invites you into a familiar world, then quietly changes the rules. It reminds us that even within a dreary, dusty reality, a pop of colour, a spark of magic can appear. Everything has a reason; we’ll have to wait until 24 July for the answers.”
Debutant actress Rapurna Bhattacharyya shared her excitement, saying:
“The teaser evokes a feeling of unease and comfort in the same breath and doesn’t ask to be understood. It lingers. That’s what drew me to Paro and the storyline. She is here to stay. I can’t wait for audiences to experience this thrill in theatres.”
At its emotional core, Katukutu Buro tells the love story of Kedar and Paro, portrayed by Ujaan Ganguly and Rapurna Bhattacharyya. However, their romance unfolds against the backdrop of an unsettling mystery, as something ancient and unnamed returns to disrupt their world.
With its striking visuals, haunting atmosphere and emotionally layered storytelling, Katukutu Buro is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing Bengali releases of the season.
