PM Narendra Modi Conferred Seychelles’ Highest-Ever ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ Presidential Distinction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ Presidential Distinction by the President of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, during a special ceremony held on Saturday. The award marks the first time this distinguished honour has been presented by the island nation.
The recognition acknowledges Prime Minister Modi’s contributions to environmental sustainability, climate action and the promotion of the Blue Economy, along with his continued advocacy for the interests of developing nations and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Recognition for Global Environmental Leadership
According to official information, the honour highlights India’s growing role in advancing sustainable ocean resource management, environmental conservation and international cooperation on climate-related challenges.
Accepting the award, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the recognition to all nations committed to protecting the environment and combating climate change. He said the honour reflects the collective efforts of countries working towards a greener and more sustainable future.
Strengthening India–Seychelles Partnership
The Prime Minister noted that the recognition comes as India and Seychelles commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations, describing it as another milestone in the long-standing friendship between the two countries. He expressed confidence that the honour would further deepen bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
India’s Green Initiatives Highlighted
The award also recognises several environmental initiatives championed by Prime Minister Modi over the years, including:
- International Solar Alliance (ISA)
- Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment)
- Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign
- International Big Cat Alliance
These initiatives aim to promote sustainable development, renewable energy adoption, biodiversity conservation and greater public participation in environmental protection.
Series of International Honours
The latest distinction adds to several international recognitions received by Prime Minister Modi for his work in sustainable development and environmental stewardship. Previous honours include the FAO Agricola Medal, the Seoul Peace Prize, and the United Nations Champion of the Earth Award, among others.
Seychelles Reaffirms India’s Role
The honour also reflects Seychelles’ appreciation of India’s expanding role as a trusted development partner in the Indian Ocean Region. The island nation acknowledged India’s support in capacity building, environmental conservation, sustainable development projects and initiatives aimed at addressing common regional priorities.
The conferment of the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ Presidential Distinction underscores the growing strategic partnership between India and Seychelles, particularly in areas of climate resilience, marine sustainability and regional cooperation.
