New Delhi, July 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday shared a timeless Sanskrit Subhashitam (wise saying) that reflects the virtues of an ideal individual, underlining the importance of selfless service, personal discipline, friendship and unwavering dedication to the nation.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister quoted the following verse:
“परकार्येषु युक्तात्मा स्वकार्ये क्षिप्रसाधनम्।
सुहृत्कार्येषु निर्वृत्ती राजकार्येषु विक्रमः ।।”
Explaining the meaning of the verse, Prime Minister Modi said that a truly excellent person is one who dedicates themselves wholeheartedly to helping others, completes personal responsibilities with speed and efficiency, serves friends without selfish motives, and displays courage and determination while performing duties towards the nation.
The Sanskrit verse highlights four essential qualities of exemplary character:
- Commitment to helping others with sincerity and dedication.
- Efficiency in personal responsibilities, ensuring one’s own duties are completed promptly.
- Selfless support for friends without expecting anything in return.
- Courage and determination in national service, placing the interests of the country above personal considerations.
The Prime Minister’s message reflects the enduring relevance of India’s ancient philosophical traditions, which continue to inspire values such as responsibility, integrity, compassion and patriotism in contemporary society.
