Group Captain Pankaj Upadhyay Takes Command of Embarkation Headquarters, Kolkata

Kolkata, July 23, 2026: Group Captain Pankaj Upadhyay officially assumed charge as the Commandant of the Embarkation Headquarters, Kolkata, on Thursday, marking a new chapter in the leadership of one of the Indian Armed Forces’ key logistics establishments in the eastern region.
The change of command ceremony witnessed Group Captain A.L. Kishore formally handing over the responsibilities after completing a distinguished tenure. The event underscored the continuity of leadership at an organisation that plays a pivotal role in facilitating the movement of personnel, equipment and military stores for the Army, Navy and Air Force across eastern India through rail, air and sea transportation networks.
Embarkation Headquarters, Kolkata, serves as a critical logistics hub, ensuring seamless coordination of tri-services movements and supporting operational readiness across the region.
Group Captain Pankaj Upadhyay brings with him over two decades of extensive experience in military logistics and operational planning. Commissioned into the Logistics Branch of the Indian Air Force in 2003, he is an alumnus of the Air Force Academy, the Military Institute of Technology, Pune, and the prestigious College of Defence Management.
During his distinguished career, Group Captain Upadhyay has held several important appointments across operational units, training establishments, Air Headquarters and Command Headquarters. His diverse experience in logistics management, strategic planning and operational support is expected to further strengthen the capabilities of the Embarkation Headquarters.
With his broad professional expertise and leadership experience, Group Captain Upadhyay is expected to build upon the strong foundation established by his predecessor while continuing to enhance the organisation’s role in supporting the logistics and mobility requirements of India’s armed forces in the eastern theatre.
