US Offers Condolences, Announces $500,000 Aid for Nepal Flood Relief
Washington, August 26, 2026: The United States has expressed its condolences to the families of people who lost their lives in the devastating flash floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, while announcing emergency assistance to support communities affected by the disaster.
In a media note issued on August 26, the US Department of State said it was closely monitoring developments in the flood-hit region and would deploy a disaster response adviser to assist ongoing relief and response operations.
As part of the emergency response, the United States will provide $500,000 in humanitarian assistance through its global partnership with Catholic Relief Services. The assistance is intended to support emergency shelter, essential relief supplies, and water, sanitation and hygiene services for communities affected by the flooding.
Support for US Citizens in Affected Areas
The US Embassy in Kathmandu is coordinating with local authorities to locate and assist American citizens who may be in areas affected by the floods.
US citizens in Nepal requiring urgent assistance related to the disaster have been advised to contact the embassy at [email protected].
The US government has also urged its citizens in affected areas to remain alert, follow directions issued by local authorities and monitor local news and official announcements for updates.
American citizens travelling or residing in Nepal have further been encouraged to enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security and emergency notifications from the US government.

The US State Department has also provided contact numbers for American citizens seeking information about family members in Nepal following the floods.
Those calling from the United States or Canada can contact 1-888-407-4747, while callers from other countries can reach the State Department at 1-202-501-4444.
The US response comes as Nepal deals with the consequences of severe flash flooding in Rasuwa. Alongside its condolences, Washington said its immediate priority was supporting relief efforts and helping affected communities address urgent humanitarian needs.
The assistance announced by the United States is expected to contribute to emergency shelter, essential supplies and basic water and sanitation support as relief operations continue.
