PM Modi Pays Tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on His 100th Birth Anniversary

New Delhi, September 8, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to legendary Assamese singer, musician and cultural icon Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his 100th birth anniversary.
Remembering the cultural giant, the Prime Minister highlighted Hazarika’s extraordinary contribution in taking the cultural identity and voice of Assam and the wider Northeast to audiences across India.
Prime Minister Modi said that Hazarika’s music gave expression to the aspirations, emotions and experiences of ordinary people, while his songs helped build a sense of connection among communities.
The Prime Minister also recalled his participation in the opening programme of Dr. Hazarika’s birth centenary celebrations in Guwahati last year.
Describing Hazarika’s legacy as one that will continue to resonate across generations, Modi said the legendary artist’s life and creative work remain an enduring source of inspiration.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister remembered Hazarika on his centenary and highlighted the way his powerful voice connected Assam and the Northeast with the rest of the country. He also recalled how Hazarika used music to articulate people’s thoughts and feelings and bring them closer together.
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika remains one of India’s most influential cultural figures, with his music playing a major role in carrying the artistic traditions and social consciousness of Assam to a national audience.
