Washington, September 18, 2026: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to travel to New York from September 20 to 23 to participate in the high-level activities surrounding the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to a media note issued by the U.S. Department of State, Rubio’s visit will focus on advancing the Trump administration’s stated agenda concerning peace, prosperity and the role of sovereign nations in international affairs.
The State Department said Rubio will join President Donald Trump during the UN General Assembly period and advocate for what it described as a return of the United Nations to its core mandate of maintaining international peace and security while respecting national sovereignty.
Meetings with Foreign Counterparts
During his stay in New York, Secretary Rubio is expected to meet with foreign counterparts to discuss shared security and economic priorities, support ongoing peace efforts and strengthen cooperation on issues identified as priorities by the United States.

U.S. Focus on UN Reform
The State Department further said that the United States will work with other UN member states during the High-Level Week to pursue what it described as “real results for the American people.”
Washington also plans to build on UN reforms that the U.S. administration says have been achieved during the past year.
