Dr. Kanad Das, Director of the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) and one of the country’s leading mycologists, was formally felicitated at the National Conference on “FUNGI for BHARAT – Fungi for Better Health, Agriculture, Remediation and Technology” and the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Mycological Society of India, held at the University of Delhi on 20 November 2025. He holds the distinction of being the first mycologist to serve as Director of the Botanical Survey of India.
The recognition celebrated his significant scientific contributions to the field of mycology—particularly in fungal biodiversity assessment, systematic taxonomy, and conservation biology across India’s diverse ecosystems. Under his leadership, the Botanical Survey of India is expected to further strengthen national initiatives aimed at comprehensive documentation and long-term conservation of the country’s mycobiota.
The conference offered an apt scientific forum to acknowledge his work, bringing together leading experts, researchers, and early-career scientists committed to advancing fungal science and related disciplines in India.
