12 Years of Modi Government Have Fostered an Aspirational India, Says Dr. Jitendra Singh

New Delhi, June 7: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Sunday said that the past 12 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have transformed India into a more aspirational, innovation-driven and opportunity-oriented nation. Speaking to the media, the Minister highlighted governance reforms, scientific advancements and the rapid expansion of India’s startup ecosystem as key achievements of the period.
Reflecting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 4,399 days in office as a continuously serving elected Prime Minister, Dr. Jitendra Singh said one of the most significant changes witnessed during the period has been a shift in public mindset. According to him, citizens today display greater confidence in their ability to succeed through merit, innovation and hard work.
“The biggest achievement of the Modi era is the change in mindset. A new culture of aspiration has emerged across the country, where people increasingly believe they can achieve their goals irrespective of their background,” the Minister said.
Startup Ecosystem Witnesses Rapid Growth
Highlighting India’s entrepreneurial growth, Dr. Jitendra Singh noted that the country’s startup ecosystem has expanded from around 350-400 startups in 2014 to more than 2.3 lakh startups today. He said these enterprises have collectively generated nearly 25 lakh employment opportunities.
The Minister pointed out that nearly half of the startups are based in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, while a significant proportion are led by women entrepreneurs, reflecting the broadening of economic opportunities beyond metropolitan centres.
Space Sector Expansion and Future Growth
Dr. Jitendra Singh said India’s space economy has grown substantially and is currently valued at nearly $9 billion. He projected that the sector could expand to approximately $45 billion within the next seven to eight years.
He credited policy reforms that opened the space sector to private participation for accelerating innovation and entrepreneurship. According to the Minister, India now has around 400 space startups, compared to only a handful a few years ago, with one startup recently achieving unicorn status.
The Minister also highlighted growing public interest in scientific achievements, citing increased participation by media representatives and citizens during major space missions and launches.
Governance Reforms and Merit-Based Opportunities
Discussing governance reforms, Dr. Jitendra Singh referred to measures such as the introduction of self-attestation of documents and the abolition of interviews for certain government recruitment categories.
He said these reforms reduced bureaucratic hurdles and strengthened merit-based selection processes, helping build confidence among young Indians that opportunities could be secured through talent and hard work rather than personal influence.
According to the Minister, the growing number of successful candidates from smaller towns in competitive examinations reflects the democratization of opportunities through transparency and technology-driven governance.
Scientific Achievements and Innovation Culture
The Minister also emphasized India’s achievements in space exploration, including the Chandrayaan missions. He said the government’s support for scientific research and innovation has helped strengthen public engagement with science and technology.
Dr. Jitendra Singh noted that India’s successful lunar missions have not only enhanced the country’s global scientific standing but have also inspired greater interest among young people in research and innovation.
Opening Strategic Sectors
The Minister highlighted the opening of strategic sectors such as space and parts of the nuclear ecosystem to private participation, describing it as a transformative policy shift. He said greater collaboration between government institutions, industry and startups has expanded opportunities for innovation and aligned India more closely with global technological trends.
Vision for Developed India by 2047
Looking ahead, Dr. Jitendra Singh said India’s development journey would require stronger public-private partnerships, increased participation of women and youth, and continued investment in emerging sectors such as space technology, nuclear energy and quantum technologies.
He stated that the government’s long-term vision extends beyond economic growth and aims to build an empowered, innovative and aspirational society capable of contributing to the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047.
The Minister’s remarks come as the Narendra Modi government completes 12 years in office, with the government highlighting governance reforms, infrastructure development, digital transformation and innovation-led growth as key pillars of its development agenda.
