Kolkata Metro to Run More Trains with Extended Service Hours on Blue and Green Lines from July 27

Metro Railway, Kolkata, has announced a major enhancement in its services on the Blue Line and Green Line, introducing additional train services and extended operating hours from July 27, 2026, on an experimental basis. The initiative aims to improve connectivity, reduce waiting time, and provide greater convenience for daily commuters.
The revised timetable will come into effect from Monday and includes earlier morning departures as well as extended late-night services across both corridors.
Earlier First Trains and Later Last Services
Under the new schedule, the Blue Line will begin operations as early as 6:00 a.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, with trains running between Dakshineshwar and Shahid Khudiram from both directions. Additional early morning services will also originate from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Dum Dum stations.
The final Blue Line trains will now operate until around 10:30 p.m., with select services extending up to 10:43 p.m., offering commuters more flexibility for late-evening travel.
On the Green Line, the first weekday train from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V will depart at 6:00 a.m., while the last trains from both terminal stations will leave at 10:30 p.m. An additional late-night service from City Centre to Howrah Maidan will depart at 10:36 p.m.
Revised Sunday Schedule
Sunday Metro services have also been improved. Operations on both the Blue and Green Lines will commence at 9:00 a.m., while late-night services will continue until approximately 10:30 p.m., ensuring better weekend connectivity for passengers.
Increase in Number of Metro Services
As part of the revised timetable, Metro Railway will operate more trains on both corridors.
Blue Line
- Monday to Friday: 272 services, up from 260
- Saturday: 258 services, up from 246
- Sunday: 158 services, up from 152
Green Line
- Monday to Friday: 236 services, up from 228
- Saturday: 212 services, up from 204
- Sunday: 111 services, up from 108
Focus on Passenger Convenience
According to Metro Railway, the enhanced timetable has been designed to provide better early-morning connectivity for office-goers, students, and business travellers, while the extended evening operations will benefit commuters returning home after work or attending late-night engagements.
The changes are being introduced on a trial basis, and passenger response will be monitored before making the revised schedule permanent.
