NEW DELHI, October 21, 2026: The Indian Army’s apex-level biannual Army Commanders’ Conference commenced in New Delhi on Wednesday, bringing together the force’s senior leadership to assess emerging security challenges, strengthen operational preparedness and chart a roadmap for a technologically advanced, adaptive and future-ready Army.

The three-day conference, being held from October 21 to 23 under the chairmanship of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), will deliberate on the evolving security environment, capability development, modernisation and key transformation initiatives required to address the changing nature of warfare.

Defence Leadership to Address Contemporary Security Challenges

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to address the conference, while the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of the Naval Staff and the Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will deliver presentations on contemporary security-related issues.

Their participation is expected to contribute to discussions on emerging strategic challenges, technological developments and the evolving requirements of national defence.

Land Warfare Doctrine to Be Released

A major highlight of the conference will be the release of the Land Warfare Doctrine by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The doctrine is intended to provide an overarching framework for preparing the Indian Army to respond to the changing character of warfare and the challenges posed by future conflicts.

The initiative represents an important element of the Army’s broader efforts to strengthen its preparedness and adapt its operational approach to evolving battlefield requirements.

Recognition of Indian Army Personnel and Institutional Excellence

The Defence Minister will also unveil the annual United Nations Journal and felicitate Indian Army personnel who have made notable contributions while serving as United Nations peacekeepers. The recognition will highlight their professionalism, exemplary service and contribution to international peace and security under the UN banner.

In another key initiative, the Chief of the Army Staff will confer awards recognising excellence in environmental sustainability, resource management and aviation safety. The honours will include awards for Green Military Stations and Aviation Flight Safety.

These recognitions underline the importance of responsible resource management, environmental stewardship and maintaining high safety standards across military establishments and aviation operations.

Shaping a Future-Ready Indian Army

With its wide-ranging agenda, the Army Commanders’ Conference will serve as a strategic platform for reviewing ongoing initiatives, identifying future priorities and formulating policy directions for the force.

The deliberations are aimed at strengthening the Indian Army’s ability to respond to emerging threats while advancing technological integration, operational effectiveness and institutional transformation.

As the security landscape continues to evolve, the conference assumes significance in shaping a progressive, adaptive and technologically enabled Indian Army prepared to meet the demands of future warfare.
