GREEN BUILDING ‘PLATINUM’ RATING CERTIFICATE FOR HOWRAH STATION CONFERRED BY IGBC

Kolkata, January 19, 2024 :

In a historical event, Shri Milind K Deouskar, General Manager/Eastern Railway accepted the coveted Green Building ‘Platinum’ Certificate for the Howrah Railway station building from the officials of IGBC (Indian Green Building Council)/Kolkata. Howrah Railway station building got its Green Rating from ‘Gold’ to ‘Platinum’ in a record time of six (6) months. The Platinum certification for the Green Rating of the Howrah Railway Station Building has been handed over by CII-IGBC (Confederation of Indian Industry – Indian Green Building Council) today at Howrah. Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager/ Howrah was also present on the occasion.

Howrah Railway Station is the biggest & one of the oldest railway stations of Indian Railways. Howrah Railway station has a daily footfall of 6.5 lakhs of passengers (approx). The present building of Howrah Station (Old Complex) was opened to the public in the year 1905, although the first train was started from Howrah to Hooghly on 15th August 1854. In April 2018, Howrah Railway Station received a Silver rating from CII-IGBC. Howrah Station also Coveted a Gold rating by IGBC on 28th June 2023.

Improving things further in Environment & Passenger related works, Howrah Railway Station has now received a Platinum rating.
Some of the major initiatives taken by Howrah Division which have helped to upgrade the Howrah Station rating from ‘Gold’ to ‘Platinum’ are as follows :
 Blue & Green bags in all twin dustbins are provided at the Howrah Station area to segregate waste.
 The centralized VAT of Howrah Station is divided into three parts i.e. Bio-degradable, Non-biodegradable & Medical waste.
 Segregated Garbage accumulation point at Central Vat of Howrah station has been provided as a tool of Solid Waste Management.
 Vande Bharat Rail Coach Restaurant at Bappu Uddyan/Howrah near car parking.
 Executive Lounge facility provided at Howrah Old & New Complex as a tool of Passenger Amenities.
 Rain Water Harvesting Plant has been commissioned
 Treated Fresh Air Unit (TFA) is provided in All AC rooms of Howrah Station.
 Water Meter installed at Howrah Station area.

Shri Milind K Deouskar, General Manager/Eastern Railway congratulated Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager/ Howrah and the entire team of Howrah Division for this commendable achievement.
