Europol presents first ever report mapping criminal networks across the EU

Tomorrow, Commissioner for Justice, Didier  Reynders, and Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson will attend the presentation of Europol’s first-ever report on ‘Decoding the EU’s most threatening criminal networks’. As set out in the October 2023 Roadmap to fight drug trafficking and organised crime, mapping high-risk criminal networks is key to dismantling them.

This report follows up on the actions set out in the roadmap and is a key deliverable under the EU Strategy to tackle Organised Crime 2021-2025. The report analyses more than 800 criminal networks and 25,000 individuals, based on data from all Member States and 17 non-EU countries. It covers key criminal activities, including drug trafficking, fraud, property crime, migrant smuggling, and trafficking in human beings.  It provides a clear understanding not only of criminal activities but also of those responsible for them, giving law enforcement authorities valuable insights into how criminal networks operate in the EU, thereby allowing for more targeted action to combat organized crime.

The report will be presented during the press conference with Commissioner Reynders and Commissioner Johansson, together with Europol’s Executive Director, Catherine De Bolle, Belgian Minister of Interior, Annelies Verlinden, and Belgian Minister of Justice, Paul Van Tigchelt at 8:30 CEST and can be followed live here
