Washington, June 13, 2026: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephonic conversation with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to discuss the evolving situation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically significant maritime trade routes.

According to an official readout released by the U.S. Department of State, the two leaders exchanged views on recent developments affecting navigation and regional security in the Strait, through which a substantial share of global energy supplies and commercial shipping passes.

During the discussion, Secretary Rubio emphasized that commercial vessels operating in the region should immediately comply with directives issued by U.S. forces, stating that such measures are intended to maintain peace, security, and the safe movement of maritime traffic.

The U.S. Secretary also reiterated Washington’s position that violations of the U.S.-imposed blockade and the illicit transportation of Iranian oil would not be tolerated, underscoring the United States’ commitment to enforcing its maritime security policies in the region.

The official statement did not disclose additional details regarding India’s response or any specific agreements reached during the conversation.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, connecting the Persian Gulf with international waters and serving as a vital corridor for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Any disruption in the region has the potential to impact international energy markets and global trade.

The latest high-level discussion reflects continued diplomatic engagement between the United States and India on regional security and international maritime stability amid evolving geopolitical developments in West Asia.
