President Droupadi Murmu Calls for Balance Between Development and Traditional Values at Tribal Empowerment Event

President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the programme titled “Empowerment of Tribal Society by Spiritual Awakening”, organized by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, on June 18, 2026.
Addressing the gathering, the President emphasized that in today’s fast-paced, consumption-driven world, spiritual purity has become increasingly important for all sections of society. She stated that spirituality provides the foundation for an egalitarian way of life and encourages responsible use of natural resources, both of which are essential for sustainable development.
Highlighting the growing challenges of stress, conflict, and social divisions across the world, President Murmu said that initiatives focused on spiritual awakening and social empowerment are more relevant today than ever before.
The President noted that tribal communities naturally embody many of the core principles of spirituality through their close relationship with nature and their commitment to collective well-being. She praised the efforts of the Brahma Kumaris organization for its long-standing work with tribal communities across different parts of the country, contributing to their social and spiritual development.
Speaking on the broader concept of empowerment, President Murmu said that the progress of any section of society cannot be measured solely through economic growth. True empowerment, she explained, comes when individuals develop self-confidence, self-respect, awareness, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Spiritual awakening helps people discover their inner strengths while guiding them toward positive thinking and higher life goals.
The President further stated that a balance between modern development and traditional values forms the foundation of a strong, prosperous, and inclusive society. According to her, meaningful development is rooted in a nation’s cultural heritage and values while simultaneously strengthening them for future generations.
She stressed that adopting such a holistic approach would promote social harmony, equality, and inclusive growth across the country.
Calling upon citizens to contribute actively towards nation-building, President Murmu urged everyone to work with greater commitment towards the vision of a Developed India by 2047, where spirituality, social harmony, environmental conservation, and human welfare serve as the pillars of sustainable and inclusive progress.
The event highlighted the growing importance of integrating spiritual values with developmental initiatives, particularly in empowering tribal communities and promoting a balanced model of growth that respects both tradition and modern aspirations.
