July 16: A group identifying itself as the Republic of Balochistan has announced plans to conduct what it describes as its first National Population and Housing Census across Balochistan in 2027. According to a statement released by the organization, the proposed exercise is intended to create a comprehensive demographic database that it says would support future governance, national planning, and institutional development.
The organization stated that the census would seek to collect information on the country’s population, including the number of households, women, children, youth, and senior citizens. It said the data would be gathered through institutions and representatives aligned with the group’s administration and incorporated into what it described as a national database.
According to the statement, the proposed census would be used to prepare future national budgets, allocate public resources, and formulate policies related to education, healthcare, housing, infrastructure, employment, and social welfare. The organization also said the demographic information would assist in planning civil administration, public services, and the staffing requirements of its proposed state institutions.
The group further claimed that the census would support the development of a digital governance framework, including future initiatives such as civil registration, digital identity systems, electoral planning, taxation, and long-term economic development strategies.
In its statement, the organization rejected Pakistan’s official census figures for Balochistan, which estimate the province’s population at around 15 million. It instead claimed that the actual population is approximately 60 million.
