Argentine cyclists Valentina Muñoz and Yoel Vargas to carry flame during lighting ceremony in Athens
Buenos Aires, July 23. South American youth cycling champions Valentina Muñoz and Yoel Vargas will be the first Argentine relay runners to carry the Buenos Aires 2018 youth Olympic flame during the lighting ceremony in Athens on Tuesday.
Valentina and Yoel will be accompanied by Argentine cycling legend Walter Perez, a gold medallist at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.
At the lighting ceremony the Buenos Aires 2018 Organising Committee will be represented by president Gerardo Werthein and executive director Leandro Larrosa.
Valentina Muñoz won the gold medal in the women’s individual time trial at the road cycling competition in the South American Youth Games Santiago 2017. At the same competition, Yoel Vargas took home two gold medals in road cycling and team sprint.
Secretary of Citizen Development, Matias Lopez, will be among those attending the ceremony in Athens on behalf of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, in addition to officials from the International Olympic Committee, the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Argentine Embassy in Greece.
The event at the Panathenaic Stadium will start at 11.00 local time (05.00 in Argentina) and will finish around 13.00 (07.00 in Argentina).
